Cancer Research Project: Description

The CCRA Cancer Research Survey is a comprehensive and systematic approach to collecting information on cancer research being conducted across Canada. Data are collected annually from organizations within the governmental and voluntary sectors that fund cancer research. Projects are classified on the basis of the Common Scientific Outline (CSO), a taxonomy of cancer-related research activity developed by cancer organizations in the US and UK (see Common Scientific Outline (CSO)), as well as cancer site and other classification typologies (see Research Classification). The most recent survey is based on 2007 data from 37 organizations (see Participating Organizations).

The resulting information has helped to establish a baseline measure in Canada of the kinds of research being funded, the level of investment and the nature of investigator involvement. This evidence base will be used to inform individual and joint planning, and facilitate coordination between funding organizations, where appropriate.

Survey reports are available in electronic format and hardcopy. To download the electronic copy, please refer to Publications, under "About Us" menu.
