Investment in Cancer Research in 2022
Today, the CCRA released its latest report on the investment in cancer research from 2005 to 2022, with a focus on the period 2020-2022 to examine the potential impact of COVID-19. There was $526M invested in cancer research in 2022. The overall cancer research investment was fairly flat from 2019-2022, although the number of new and in-progress projects continued to decline. Research investment in breast, prostate and blood cancers declined from 2020 on and investment in operating grants fell steeply from 2020, particularly investments offered through national priority-driven competitions. Strategies employed by cancer research funders to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic on cancer research funding are described.
