CCRA Responds to the Engagement Request on Federal Research Support Restructuring
On behalf of the Alliance, a group of CCRA members formulated a response to a statement issued by the Ministers of Innovation, Science and Industry and Health to the presidents of Canada’s federal research funding agencies on June 17, 2024, which asked for input from the research community on the proposed re-structuring of the federal research support system and the introduction of the capstone organization. CCRA’s response (here) was submitted on July 17th and highlighted three considerations: that health research and the expertise/leadership within CIHR not be thwarted; that funding mechanisms supporting cancer research be preserved and augmented; and that the restructured system be robustly evaluated. Where appropriate, we ask that members circulate to their networks.
