The following four individuals were recognized for their contributions during the 2015 Canadian Cancer Research Conference (CCRC) in Montréal during November.

Exceptional Leadership Award

Dr. Morag Park (McGill University and Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre) received the Exceptional Leadership in Cancer Research award. She’s made a significant contribution to the Canadian cancer research community by focusing on developing young scientists and corralling support for emerging areas of cancer research.

Outstanding Achievements Awards

Dr. Joseph L. Pater (Queen’s University and NCIC Clinical Trials Group) received the Outstanding Achievements in Cancer Research award for his advancement of evidence-based medicine and innovation in clinical trials, including patient-reported outcomes.

Dr. Nahum Sonenberg, OC (McGill University and Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre) received the Outstanding Achievements in Cancer Research award. His seminal work demonstrates how control of translation initiation is implicated in cancer, having a profound and global impact on basic and translational research’s trajectory.

Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Michael F. Evans (St. Michael’s Hospital and University of Toronto) received the Distinguished Service to Cancer Research award for his innovative contribution to promoting healthy lifestyles. He communicated best evidence on topics of relevance to cancer control and other health issues.
